LICENSING AND ENDORSEMENTS

Dual Language Immersion Endorsements

The Dual Language Immersion Endorsement has multiple competency-based routes. Applicants must complete one of the following educational routes:

1. Utah University Route 1: Full endorsement taken at an approved university as an enrolled undergraduate student + OPI or OPIc

2. USBE Route 2: ESL Endorsement + complete required DLI Foundations course + DLI AUDII or Bridge ASBPI required training + teach for at least 1 year in a DLI or Bridge program + OPI or OPIc

3. USBE Route 3: Complete all 4 courses + DLI AUDII or Bridge ASBPI required training + teach for at least 1 year in a DLI or Bridge program + OPI or OPIc

4. USBE Route 4: Complete required DLI Foundations Course + DLI AUDII or Bridge ASBPI required training + teach for at least 1 year in DLI or Bridge program + OPI or OPIc. All applications must include official documentation of passing either the ACTFL OPI or the ACTFL OPIc Proficiency Test at the Advanced-Mid level or higher, taken within the last 5 years.

World Languages Endorsements

All applications must include original documentation of completing the requirements for the desired language.

For the university methods course, request original electronic transcripts to be sent directly from the university/college to transcripts@schools.utah.gov.

Please note that copies are not acceptable.

All applications must include official documentation of passing either the ACTFL OPI or the OPIc Proficiency Test at the Advanced-Low level or higher, taken within the last five years.

1. Pathway #1: Selected languages – competency based Praxis test or valid bachelor’s language major + 3000 level or higher methods course or equivalent + competency-based Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI or OPIc) in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Latin, or Spanish

2. Pathway #2: Selected languages – 3000 level or higher methods course or equivalent + competency-based Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI or OPIc) in Arabic, Farsi, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Samoan, Tongan, Turkish, or other languages (different from the ones listed in pathway #1)

3. Pathway #3A: Selected languages – competency-based Praxis test or valid bachelor’s teaching major + competency-based portfolio (methods course alternative) + competency-based Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI or OPIc)

4. Pathway #3B: Selected languages – competency-based portfolio + competency-based Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI or OPIc)
